How To Know If You Need Gas Line Repair

by Bill Turner

There are certain unmistakable signs that you have a gas line leak and need repair. A gas line leak can be dangerous if you don't get it repaired as soon as possible. Along with being dangerous to your health, gas line leaks can also increase your energy bills.

If your gas line leak is large enough, you can usually tell that it is happening by the smell of rotten eggs. However, if you have a smaller leak it can be a bit more difficult to detect. Here are some clues for pinpointing both small and large gas leaks.

Strange Hissing Noises

One way in which you can pinpoint a gas leak is when you hear hissing sounds. This sound may start small but eventually, they get louder and louder until they are hard to ignore. Low hissing sounds indicate that you may have a small leak on your hands. However, if you are hearing a loud hissing sound, it usually means that the leak is large.

Plants Are Dying

When your plants start dying this usually means that you have leaks underground. Underground leaks can be hard to spot at first, but once it starts affecting plants, it's easy to pinpoint. Plants that have been affected by a gas leak start withering without explanation. The color of your fruits and vegetables may also start to change as well. Once an investigation is done, you may just find that a gas line leak is the culprit.

Inefficient Appliances

If your appliances that use gas are not functioning as effectively as they should, there may be nothing wrong with the appliances themselves. The problem could be that they are not getting enough gas.

When your gas line is leaking there is naturally a reduction in pressure. This may cause your stove or even your heating system to stop working as efficiently as it normally would. The best course of action is to call in a professional to assist you as soon as possible.

Unexplained Illnesses

Often your health can show you signs that there are gas line leaks in your home before you even see any of the other signs that have already been discussed. If multiple people in your home start having unexplainable headaches, nausea, and dizziness, you may have a gas line leak on your hands.

Needless to say, this is very hazardous to your long-term health. Get your gas line checked as soon as possible so that the leaks can be identified and repaired.
